Pouliot-Latendresse Trade: A Few Months Later

There's nothing too detailed or analytical about this post, I just wanted to show you some ver interesting stats of both players with their new teams.

In 24 games with Canadiens, Benoit Pouliot has put up the following stats:

13 goals 5 assists and 18 points.

He's scoring 0.541 goals per game and 0.75 points per game.

In 39 games with the Wild, Latendresse has put up the following stats:

21 goals 9 assists and 30 points.

he's scoring 0.538 goals per game and 0.769 points per game.
It's amazing that two players who were considered busts on their orginal teams are producing at almost the exact same pace after the trade. I guess it's pretty clear that both players desperately needed a change of scenary to get their careers going. So far, it has been a very good trade for both teams, what the future holds no one knows, but both teams are profiting from the trade.

  1. It was a deal that ended up benefiting both teams for the time being. Although stat wise both players are producing, I would wait till the end of next year (one full season with the team) to evaluate them. Sometimes players play very well once they join a team and then when they get too comfortable they fade away. I am still not convinced with Guy and Pouliot.

Guy needs to use his body much more efficiently to improve his play and create room for his linemates. As for Pouliot, he strikes me as a player that will only do well here in Montreal. I don't know why I've come to that conclusion, but he does remind me of players like Brian Savage (was great for the Habs, but was brutal elsewhere).

  2. Yah Claudio, so far it was a good trade. It's amazing how they just woke up so suddenly.

We haven't had a player like Pouliot in the longest time on the habs, he doesn't use his body, but causes a lot of turnovers because of his hockey sense, it just seems like he always knows where to be.

I think both players are complimentary players rather than guys who can carry a line by themselves and now they are finally playing with players who will give them the puck when they need it to score.

How do you feel about the Cooke hit?

  3. I don't even know where to begin. Cooke is a real piece of shit - a reputation of laying out dirty hits and being an asshole on the ice. That hit on Marc Savard was dirty, disgusting and hard to watch. I don't give a shit who the player that initiated the hit was - it could have even been my favorite player Patrice Bergeron - I would lose all my respect for him. It's one thing to hit a player in the neutral zone, and it's another to hit the player at his blind side.
Cooke said something like "shoulder to shoulder hit." Yeah, my balls. That was as CLEAR as a headhunting hit as you will ever see. Cooke could have pulled off from the hit - he had time.

Atleast SHOW that you tried to avoid the hit. Cooke didn't. Not sure if you recall Cooke's hit on Asinimov (wrong spelling) of the Rangers in November (I think) - SAME exact hit, 2 games suspension. The only difference was that Asinimov skated on his own will.

The league is a joke. A fucking joke. God forbid it was Sidney fucking Crosby laid out instead of Marc Savard. God forbid!! Colin Campbell would have made a decision to suspend the hitter within SECONDS. What message is the league sending by not suspending Cooke? What message? I'll tell you - they are simply saying it's OK for headshots. End their career.

No justice whatsoever. Colin Campbell doesn't care nor protect the Bruins. And I don't say this because I am a Bruins fan. Here are a few examples: Lucic hit on Lapierre last year in the playoffs - that was a suspension, but not Cammalleri's cheapshot in the first round of last year. Carcillo was given a suspension for a similar hit during last years playoffs.

Two: Komisarek was NOT suspended for hitting Lucic on the face with his stick (game 4 of the playoffs). What a SURPRISE. Second round, Aaron Ward gets a Scott Walker sucker punch. Result, a small fine. Oh, of course Walker didn't deserve a suspension *sarcasm*. Another one: O'Byrne hits Kobasew's head with his elbow (dirty, intent to injure) ... no suspension. That was in February 2009 I think.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Campbell seems to have something against Boston ONLY.

Something may happen March 18 when Pittsburgh comes to Boston. I hate watching players get hurt because their career is at stake and it's just wrong to aim for the head. In Boston's case, there was NO JUSTICE. None. If something should happen to Crosby (say, similar hit Savard receives), then the league should shut their fucking mouth - Campbell and Co. brought this upon themselves. Hey, Campbell said "we have to be consistent" when explaining why Cooke was NOT suspended. He compared it to the Richards hit on Booth (no suspension). I'm sorry, but those two incidents were not the same.

  4. Oh, and don't forget how "fantastic" the league handled the Randy Jones hit on Patrice Bergeron two years ago. Wow, what balls they had, huh? Like I said, God forbid Crosby or Ovechkin get taken out on a stretcher due to a similar hit.

  5. Yah dude headshots are ridiculous. Olympic hockey does without it and the game is just as exciting.

The blindside crap that's happening lately should not be tolerated. It's just so fustrating to watch. You can make a huge hit without it being to the head, I really don't understand the point of headhunting.
